A NEUTRAL BASIS

Later, giving it colour and character with the details is a safe bet. Bet on walls and sofas in light tones and leave the cushions, paintings, rugs and small accessories with notes of colour so that they stand out and give personality. In addition, they are the easiest (and cheapest) to renew according to trends.

CUSTOM FURNITURE, WHAT A GREAT ALLY!

It is not a question of filling the house with custom furniture because, in addition to the fact that they represent a more significant investment, they can result in a too-flat decoration. But teaming up with them when space is small or you need a tailor-made solution is a great success. Look at this dining room, designed by Estudio Mengíbar Blanco, where more space and seating have been gained with an “L” shaped bench that is also a chest.

3.

LIGHT AND MORE LIGHT!

Light makes a space more pleasant and helps make it appear larger than it actually is. So when decorating the house, it is essential to ally with it. As? With a distribution that facilitates circulation without excessively variegating the space because the light could not flow, clearing the windows and betting on a clear base on floors, walls and textiles. Try it, and you will see how light… expands!

4.

MORE WARMTH WITH WALLPAPER

At El Mueble, we are fans of wallpaper, either to dress up a personality or a unique space in the home or to give texture and add warmth. In this sense, wallpapers with a textile effect are one of our favourites because some very successful ones create a cozy fabric-covered wall effect, as seen in this hallway.

5.

A VERY NATURAL ATMOSPHERE

It is unsurprising that at El Mueble, we are passionate about nature. Beyond being an aesthetic choice, it is also healthy since a more natural house is more beneficial. Raw wood furniture, vegetable fibres, 100% natural textiles, eco-friendly paints…

6.

NOT AN INCH LOST

It doesn’t matter if you have many or few meters; at El Mueble, we like to take advantage of every cm of the house, especially to enable hidden closets, which are never superfluous! Here, the decorator Marta Prats has hidden a complete built-in wardrobe in the hall that blends in with the walls by being painted the same.

7.

WARM LIGHTING

If enhancing the entry of natural light is critical, so is choosing artificial lighting with great care. It is essential to bet on warm leads of 2,700ºK, and if possible, take them to the whole house so that there are no shocks between one room and another, including the kitchen and bathroom.

8.

A COZY HALL THAT INVITES US TO ENTER

We have said it many times: the hall gives the first impression of a house, as well as being the last space we see when we leave and the first when we arrive, so it is essential to take care of its decoration with respect, although the hall is mini! A piece of furniture with charm, like this table with wings that serves as a console, a bouquet, a mirror, a rug that defines the space, a composition of paintings or prints… Think about the formula that best suits you and your hall, and put it into practice!

9.

CUSTOMIZE THE SOFA WALL

The wall of the sofa is one of the most difficult to decorate, which is why we often leave it bare when in doubt. At El Mueble, we like that this wall, which plays a leading role in framing the sofa, is well-dressed. With a mirror that multiplies the light, a composition of photos, an XL painting or a set of prints. In addition, according to Feng Shui, decorating the room’s walls with images or pictures helps to balance the whole and prevents energy from flowing only below.

10.

ON THE SOFA, THE RIGHT CUSHIONS

Neither few cushions nor many. You should place one more than the seats that the sofa has. That is, if the couch is for three, like this one, four cushions will suffice.

Lounge. Armchair and pouf, timeless house model. Auxiliary tables, field. Everything in Mujika Interior Design.

ELEVEN.

DON’T MISS THE COVERS ON THE SOFA

Or in the seats. The covers are a practical resource to protect the sofa as decorative, especially if you bet on natural fabrics. Linen is one of our star fabrics for making covers because it has movement and weight, it is sincere, and, despite its wrinkles, it is elegant.

Lounge. Sofa and basket, in Mäinities. Ikea armchair and rug. Sika Design coffee table.

12.

DRESS THE SOFA WITH BLANKETS AND PLAIDS

A plaid or a blanket in winter will help give the sofa more movement and reduce its rigidity if it has straight lines. Place them informally on the armrest, and the living room will look more lived-in and welcoming.

HOW TO DECORATE THE COFFEE TABLE

We like personal coffee tables, but they are also neat. That is why two large objects that understand each other are always better than many small pieces. Thus, you avoid confusing and messy results. Some photography or art books you like to browse, a natural bouquet or trays where you can group the different objects are a success. Get inspired by these ideas to decorate the coffee table.

Study. Armchairs, pots and baskets of vegetable fibre. Wooden side table.

the furniture

FIFTEEN.

FIBERS GALORE

Natural fibres in a house are never left over. Beyond rugs or baskets, vegetable fibres are also a success for some pieces of furniture, such as an armchair, like here. Remember: fibre furniture is no longer a thing, only from the outside.

Living room. Coffee and supplementary table, by Coton et Bois. Table lamp, rattan and bamboo baskets and rug, all in Sacum.

16.

BASKETS, THE GREAT JOKER

Look: they are always present in our homes. And it is that the baskets are not only super practical for storing the sofa cushions, the blankets or plaids or even the magazines that we are browsing, but they are decorative by themselves.

17.

DECORATIVE AND TIDY BOOKCASE

For this, the bookstore must breathe. As? Combining books with objects that give air (a photo, a plant…). But without going overboard because books should occupy 60% of the bookstore space. 30% should be empty. And the remaining 10% can be decorative objects.

Receiver. Wooden console with a composition of photographs.

18.

AN INTIMATE AND PERSONAL HOUSE

This is how the houses of El Mueble are: vivid, personal, and cozy, with DIY details… A recovered piece of furniture, a composition of photos, memories of trips or family outings… Your house is your refuge; you should feel entirely at home—taste it. Don’t be afraid to express yourself through decoration. On the contrary! Could you help yourself to her?

DO NOT MISS THE GREEN (NATURAL) IN THE LIVING ROOM

In the living room, they were creating three points of green, whether plant or flower, which is critical. For example, the centre table and the mantelpiece are on the side table. Of course, they must have a link, like the same flower, or share shades.

22.

THE LENGTH OF THE CURTAIN

At El Mueble, we like the curtains to rest oso which is why we constantly add an extra 10 cm to the length. And a tip: if you fear that the fabric will shrink after the first wash, add about five cm to the size “just in case”.

To make the windows appear tall as they are, it is enough to place the curtain rod as close to the ceiling as possible and not just where the window frames end. Not only will you give the room more height, but it will also appear more spacious!

Distributor. Hydraulic mosaic pavement.

24.

PLAY WITH MIRRORS

They are a must in an El Mueble house. Hanging on a piece of furniture or even resting on the floor. In the latter somewhat inclined, the mirror will reflect part of the ceiling, and the space will appear larger. It’s a neat trick for the back wall of a hallway, entryway, or dressing room.

25.

THE POWER OF CANDLES

Candles must be present in a  furniture house. Not only do they create a more welcoming and intimate atmosphere, but they also highlight areas that go unnoticed. If you choose them with aroma, you will also perfume the house. A very decorative trick is to place lanterns with candles along the corridor – one every meter – and light them in the afternoon. You will see how the space is transformed.

MAGIC CARPETS

The rugs are a classic in a very El Mueble house. Not only do they decorate by themselves and make a space more welcoming, but they are also good natural noise insulators and guarantee a more comfortable footstep. In addition, they help to delimit spaces, as demonstrated by the living room with the dining room, in which each environment has been delimited with a rug.

IN THE STUDY, THE FILING CABINETS, ALL THE SAME

And they better be pretty so that everything looks visually ordered. You can cover them with thick wrapping paper to withstand wear and tear better, and the studio looks like another. A cheerful patterned paper (flowers, squares, polka dots…) will give it a more youthful touch and one in pastel tones, more serene and feminine.

29.

DON’T MISS THE FLOWERS!

And it is that we love them and it cannot be missing in a furniture house. If you bet on the seasonal ones, they will be cheaper. A piece of advice: if the flowers are small, you can use cups and glasses of different heights as vases. Better if they are made of transparent glass because this way, the brightness of the water stands out more and gives a more sensation of freshness.

Lounge. Armchair, rug, pictures and footstool by Sacum. Coffee table and plaid from La Maison. Striped cushions from Catalina House. Smooth cushions from Coordonné. Jardiland plants.

30.

HOUSE OPENS WITH EACH SEASON

At El Mueble, we like lived-in houses, which change and adapt according to the needs and tastes of those who inhabit them. And, why not that they are permeable to the seasons, with minor changes that make them more welcoming and collected in winter and fresher and more cheerful in summer? With a simple change of cushions and textiles in the living room, for example, you can open your living room for very little money.

31.

HIT THE DINING ROOM LAMP

Choose the dining room lamp with presence. It is impressive how a dining room changes when you put a good light on it. It has to have a forceful volume proportionate to that of the table so that it does not look exaggerated or too small. Materials such as linen, paper or natural fibres look beautiful when light passes them. Glass, like this Lamp, creates stunning effects and reflections.

Dining room. Chairs, in Sacum. Ceiling lamp, from Maisons du Monde.

32.

A WELL-DRESSED TABLE

At El Mueble, we love to use an ecru or white linen tablecloth up to the feet for special occasions. You can add a tablecloth or placemats to give a touch of colour. Think that by covering the entire table, it is more rounded, the corners disappear, and you sweeten its appearance.

Dining room. Zara Home linen tablecloths. Cushions, de cado and La Maison.

AT THE TABLE, TAKE CARE OF THE DETAILS

Personalize your celebrations with creative details: make placemats with paper, original napkin rings with fabric or ribbons, put the name of your guests on handmade labels, put a centrepiece with a cut flower… The possibilities are almost endless. The most important thing is that whatever you do, the table reflects the love you have put into it.

Kitchen. Custom-made furniture. Ceiling lamps and wicker chairs in Sacum.

A WARMER KITCHEN

The kitchen can sometimes be too cold due to the steel appliances, a hegemony of white… An easy and very effective way to make it more welcoming and warm is with textiles, such as kitchen towels, or splashing it with green dots. In this sense, aromatic plants are a perfect option.

MORE VIVID

If you have shelves in the kitchen, take the opportunity to expose some unique pieces of tableware and intersperse some cookbooks; if cooking is one of your hobbies, place a jar with cookies… These are details that will make the kitchen look more vivid.
