Honeymoon trip to the Maldives, live a dream honeymoon

Honeymoon trip to the Maldives, live a dream honeymoon.

Going on a honeymoon trip to the Maldives was always my dream; since I was little, I imagined that trip; the destination that came to mind was only one.

For many years I always believed that traveling to the Maldives was unattainable, that only a few could do it until I realized this was not the case.

Without any doubt, the Maldives is paradise on earth, the perfect place to end the most important day of your life.

Honeymoon trip to the Maldives, live a dream honeymoon.

Why should you spend your honeymoon in the Maldives?

My first contact with the Asian tropical climate was in Thailand, and I remember being amazed at the country, people, beaches, and nature.

Since then, I have been to other paradises such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka, and although they are incredible places…

  • The beaches of Maldives are the most beautiful in the world, without any doubt, that color of water and sand you will ONLY find here.
  • Arriving at your resort by seaplane is… I don’t know how to tell you, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, not only because of getting on a seaplane but also because the landscape from the air is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Unreal.
  • The service is EXQUISITE, from the moment you arrive and the staff greets you at the pier until you leave when the team says goodbye to you and doesn’t stop until they “lose” you from sight.
  • French Polynesia is a beautiful destination to spend a honeymoon, but it’s about 50 hours 😰 of travel, while Madrid – Malé is only 14 hours! (apart from the fact that the price of the flight to the Maldives is relatively cheaper).
  • Something that always amazes me and that I still haven’t been able to understand is that even though the resort where you stay is at 100% capacity, when you’re on the beach, you have absolute privacy; you don’t see anyone anywhere, where do people go?
  • Luxury, yes, because although there are cheaper and simpler resorts, if there is something that stands out, it is the luxury of the accommodation, both in the details of the villas such as having a private pool and Jacuzzi, among many other things.
  • The variety of accommodation I think is also essential to take into account. I love the beach villas, those little houses just a few meters from the beach, the bungalows on the water, and best of all? You don’t have to choose; you can spend a few days in one type of accommodation and the rest in another.
  • You can choose from more than 200 paradisiacal islands; there is nothing, islands that have their private resort, with all kinds of services and amenities.
  • It is not just sun and beach. I have coincided with many people (who have not traveled to the Maldives) who have the idea that the only thing they are going to do is sunbathe, and that is not the case, at least not if you do not want to, there are many activities that you can do.

Ten activities that will make your honeymoon trip to the Maldives unforgettable

My trips to the Maldives have been anything but dull, so how you spend your days is up to you.

Some choose to spend a quiet honeymoon in the Maldives because they want to recover from all the hustle and bustle of the wedding.

And who prefers to make the most of this trip to do activities only possible here.

Duo spa treatments

In the spa menu, you will find several packs for couples; for example, the “Full moon magic” offered by Meeru Island Resort includes.

  • Massage of your choice
  • body scrub
  • Indian head and foot massage
  • tropical bathroom
  • And all accompanied by a plate of fruit and champagne.

Renew your vows in paradise

Yes, I know you will have all your family and friends away, but it is the perfect excuse to wear your wedding dress again (or a new one) and live that moment again in a paradise-like the Maldives.

The Embudu Resort offers packages including decoration, a bouquet, cake, wine, cocktail, massage, lobster dinner, and room decoration for $1,500.

Toast while you watch the sunset

Get on the cruise organized by your resort in the Maldives to see one of the most incredible sunsets while you toast with champagne and eat canapés.

Have a romantic dinner underwater

Can you imagine dining underwater while fish, mantas, and sharks … pass over your head?

Admittedly, only two resorts in the Maldives have such a restaurant, one of them being the Hurawalhi Resort, which boasts the world’s largest underwater restaurant at 5.8 meters.

Do a photo session

I have to confess that I was initially somewhat reluctant; why? I don’t know the photographer?

But in the end, it turned out to be a great session, and the photos were incredible because the blue color of the water makes it impossible for anything to go wrong.

The vast majority of resorts have a professional photographer who offers this service.

Spend the day on a sandbar

But well, put yourself in a situation, the resort staff takes you in a speedboat to a sandbank in the middle of nowhere but oh surprise! when you arrive you have a mini tent prepared and under it a table with food, fresh drinks, and clean towels.

Stay in the Maldives in an overwater bungalow.

Although I liked it a lot aesthetically, I had always thought that it was more a whim than a necessity; why pay more to stay in the Maldives in an overwater bungalow?

Until the day I stayed for the first time, that night, I didn’t sleep a wink.

The marine life intensifies at night, and the traffic under the bungalow is incredible. Not only that, having private access to the sea is simply outstanding.

food on the beach

Take a private dinner under the stars and on the beach, a meal just for two where you will have service at all times at your disposal.

Take a cooking class.

Indeed you had never thought you could take a cooking course in the Maldives, right?

Back home you will bring many memories, but you can also bring those dishes that you eat during your stay, you will learn to prepare them, to know what ingredients you need… so every time you eat them you will surely remember this trip.

enjoy and rest

And I still leave many more things behind, but… you don’t always have to do something.

On one of my trips to the Maldives, I met an older couple who told me that they spent their vacations in the Maldives every year at the same resort. You don’t know what envy they gave me.

They were happy, living life, cocktails in hand, enjoying the place and doing NOTHING.

Combine your honeymoon trip to the Maldives with other destinations

If you want to take advantage of your trip to the Maldives, you can make a combination; since you are flying to the Maldives, add another destination.

As there is no direct flight to the Maldives, at least not from Spain, yes or yes, you will have to make a stopover somewhere, so that is the time to take advantage and make an extended stopover without paying more.

If you have doubts about how to do it, ask me, and I will help you organize your trip.

Maldives + Dubai

Most flights departing from Spain make a stopover in the Middle East, and depending on the company you fly with, you will make a stopover in one city or another.

Emirates Airways, for example, makes a stopover in Dubai, so instead of making a 2-hour stopover to change plans, the company offers passengers, at no added cost, the ability to make a stopover of 2 or 3 days (or more) to that you can visit the country.

Maldives Islands + Sri Lanka

Two destinations are night and day, which is why the combination is so attractive.

You can spend seven days (which I recommend) getting to know Sri Lanka, taking the fantastic train ride through the Highlands, interacting with the people and getting to know their culture… and finish your honeymoon in the Maldives.

The best resorts for a honeymoon trip to the Maldives

In the Maldives, there are approximately 130 resorts, so there is a lot to choose from, and although the vast majority are incredible, I think that not all of them are up to the task of spending a honeymoon in the Maldives.

For occasions like these, one looks for something more unique and spectacular.

So here are the resorts in the Maldives that are most frequented and liked by celebrities.

Anantara Kihavah Resort . Cristiano Ronaldo

Amilla Fushi. The Beckhams, Kate Moss, Kate Winslet, Orlando Bloom, and Kate Perry

The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi. Shakira and Gerard Pique

Six Senses Laamu . Risto Mejide and Laura Escanes, Cayetano Rivera and Eva González, Kiko Rivera and Irene Rosales

Vakkaru Maldives . Madonna

Soneva Fushi. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Liv Tyler

Soneva Jani. Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk

One & Only Reethi Rah. The Beckhams

Remember that although they are resorts where celebrities stay, that does not mean that they are the best islands in the Maldives.

Typically celebrities look for exclusivity and privacy, and these resorts can offer it to them.

How much does a honeymoon cost in the Maldives?

The hotel in the Maldives will determine the final trip price of your honeymoon trip to the Maldives you choose.

It depends mainly on the category of the resort, amenities, and luxury.

For example, as you can imagine, the resorts that I have mentioned are very high level, and the price is consistent.

6 nights in a “Villa Lagoon Water” at the Six Senses Laamu resort costs €7,124 for two people.

At that price, you have to add…

  • The international flight to the Maldives, which can range from €450 to €900 round trip per person
  • The transfer from the airport to the resort costs $727 round trip per person
  • Plus meals, since only buffet breakfast is included in the rate

One of the most spectacular resorts I have ever stayed at has been the Coco Bodu Hithi, from the fantastic villas (the top photo is the estate’s interior) to the delicious food.

Spending six nights at this resort costs €3,143 with half board for two people, and the villas also have a private pool.

What to do in the Maldives

Known for being the perfect place for vacations and honeymoons, enjoying its paradisiacal beaches is the main activity in the Maldives. However, this paradise on earth has so much more to offer, and it truly is suitable for any traveler.

This article summarizes all the things to do in the Maldives for anyone to enjoy; adventure seekers and honeymooners will find plenty of travel inspiration here, but so will those looking for a more local experience.

Beaches in the Maldives

The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of this country is the beaches of the Maldives Islands. One imagines the turquoise green beaches on the cover of a travel catalog. Many destinations use photos like this, and the reality when you get there is disappointing. But in the Maldives, we assure you that paradise beaches are natural. The secret is that they are coral islands, forming atolls protected by reefs that create interior lagoons with turquoise waters and thousands of colorful little fish. The sand is white, and the water is at the same temperature all year round (around 28º C), but it doesn’t feel so hot because the temperature is the same outside. Here we tell you more about the Maldives Beaches.

Sandbanks (banks of sand) or desert islands in the Maldives

The Maldives atolls have hundreds of tiny islets without human presence or construction. It may be a small sandbank with nothing else or an island with vegetation, but the experience is enjoyable. Excursions can be organized to visit, stay a few hours, have a picnic, a dinner… or even spend the night.

Snorkeling, diving, diving… life underwater

The Maldives is one of the leading diving destinations. There are many professional PADI dive centers where you can take dives if you are not certified or sign up for various dive options on one of the many reefs. The Maldives has an abundance of marine life unique in the world. We discuss fauna like rays, whale sharks, and sea turtles below. The crystal clear waters offer incredible visibility, and there is no need for a wetsuit as the water is warm all year round.

We have an article about diving in the Maldives.

Suppose the visitor is not attracted to scuba diving. In that case, snorkeling is an excellent option because the reefs in the Maldives are usually not very deep, and incredible marine spectacles can be seen without the need for diving equipment.

Surfing in the Maldives

One of the quintessential water sports could not be missing in the Maldives. The calm waters of the lagoons in the Maldives atolls could lead us to think that it is not a good place for surfing. But on the contrary, it is one of the destinations chosen by surfers from all over the world for its waves. The reefs protect many islands and leave very calm waters inside, but the waves are perfect outside.

There are resorts with limited areas for surfers, even with exclusive bars and rooms. Here we talk about surfing in the Maldives.

Other water sports

There is a wide variety of sports to practice in the Maldives: kayaking, SUP (Stand Up Paddle), water skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, etc…

Spa and massages in the Maldives

One of the most relaxing things in the Maldives is enjoying a relaxing and rejuvenating spa treatment. The archipelago has some of the best resorts and spas in the world, with excellent services and massage parlors in an incredible setting. Visitors can receive therapeutic massages and spa treatments from all over the globe: Ayurveda, Balinese, Thai… They usually have professionals from various countries specialized in different styles.

Yoga in the Maldives

This ancient philosophy began in India, not far from the Maldives. It is about uniting the physical, the mental, and the spiritual. Yoga means union, in this case, the association of body and mind. You can take yoga classes in many resorts and local islands in the Maldives. Even in many, it is a free group activity. Practicing yoga in the Maldives in front of the sea, or even under the sea, as we see in the photo, is a unique and very relaxing experience.

Other activities

Apart from the activities mentioned above, many hotels and resorts offer other options to entertain their guests. Some leisure alternatives in the accommodation are the following:

Golf Resorts in the Maldives

Despite the little land available on the islands, it may be surprising that there are some resorts with golf courses. Among the most prominent are:

Velaa Private Island: designed by José María Olazábal.

Meeru Island Resort & Spa

Kuredu Island Resort & Spa

Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa Maldives

Tennis

Many resorts have a free-use tennis court for their clients. Some of them are chosen by top tennis players, such as Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Between the two of them, they have 37 Grand Slam tournaments and have traveled to the Maldives several times. In the northern hemisphere’s winter, tennis season stops, and both usually take the opportunity to visit paradise, where the temperature is always suitable. Despite being on vacation, they must follow certain routines, so they continue to train daily.

Sport fishing

Sport fishing is a popular tourist attraction in the Maldives, with hundreds of anglers coming to the country to catch a wide variety of fish species, especially the large ones. Recognized for being one of the best sport fishing destinations in the world, Maldives is home to species such as tuna, sea bream, barracuda, and swordfish. The country has strict fishing regulations that are enforced to maintain fish stocks for the livelihood of the local population. Because of this, fishing is highly controlled and, of course, strictly prohibited in multiple marine reserves.

Gastronomy in the Maldives

In the resorts, there are some of the best restaurants in the world, specializing in cuisine from around the world. The local cuisine focuses on fish and seafood; how could it be otherwise. And there are also cooking class options.

Dinner in an underwater restaurant

Dining at one of the underwater restaurants in the Maldives is an activity that allows visitors to enjoy excellent food with incredible views of the seabed. It is an experience you will not easily forget. Underwater restaurants feature the world’s most unique dining experiences. It is ideal for carrying out the activity as a couple, although you can also have dinner with your family and celebrate a special occasion since there are options for all types of guests in these underwater restaurants in the Maldives
